Vejer Bursting With HistoryVejer de la Frontera is a hilltop town in Andalucía in the south of Spain. It is located around 10 km inland from the coast and 200m above sea level. As the town is perched on a rocky hill, it is easy to see the Atlantic Ocean and even on a clear day Africa in the distance.
Vejer is bursting with history with evidence of people living there as far back as the 7th century BC. It was used as a fortress by the Phoenicians, the Carthaginians, the Romans, the Visigoths and the Moors for 500 years until it was taken by King Fernando III “The Holy” in the 13th century. Every corner, every street or alleyway is dripping with history. It’s an magical place.
